Flowing from Lake Sumner which guarantees good water flows throughout the summer, the Hurunui river flows through a remote mountain catchment with a number of enjoyable rapids along its length, but notably the Maori Gully stretch provides almost continuous white water excitement. This trip encapsulates the splendour of the Canterbury high country.
