NEW ZEALAND R6 SELECTION RACE FOR WORLD RAFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS – COSTA RICA 2011

BULLER RIVER – MURCHISON - 13th – 14th NOVEMBER 2010

Following on from successful workshops held in 2009 with the revised Rescue Training and Workshop format, the PROPOSED
dates and venues for 2010 will be:

NORTH ISLAND - RANGITAIKI - 1st – 5th November
SOUTH ISLAND - MURCHISON - 22nd – 26th November

Format will be:
Day 1 to 3 - a "rescue course" for those who wish to learn and refresh swiftwater rescue skills,
culminating in a testing day to achieve the rescue pre-requisites of New Zealand raft guide qualifications.

Day 3 to 5 - a rescue workshop for those who wish to refresh, practise and push their rescue skills
using scenario based sessions. Participants will attend a testing/refresher day (on Day 3) where they
must be able to perform all tasks that are required in New Zealand Raft Guide qualifications in order to be able
to participate in the final two days.

Raft Guide Training (1-26 November, 2010)
Tai Poutini Polytechnic, West Coast

* 4 weeks instruction. 1 week work based training

This new and unique programme offers the only opportunity for specialised, intensive raft guide training in New Zealand.

The West Coast area, Buller region, and the Rangitata river (Gr 4/5) offer some of the best rafting training environments in the world. This course offers internationally experienced instructors who are all NZ Rafting Association Assessors, along with
top-quality rafting and rescue equipment.

On completion of this short award you will gain Tai Poutini Polytechnic Short Award plus NZQA units 21283 and 21282.

Career Opportunities

wishes to extend it's condolences to the family and firends of James Moore. James was a valued member of the rafting community.  He was well respected for his skills not only as a guide but as a valuable member of the raft race team and later for his photography skills.
